To have this Zermatt Elopement Photography session was a dream come true! Me and my associates have done some couple and proposal photo sessions at Zermatt but I was longing to explore this place for an elopement as well. To get some experience about the place me and my lovely friend Johanna (which is also one of my talented associates) teamed up with Lisi & Timon. Which came all the way from Zurich for this Elopement styled shoot at Zermatt. It was a late day in May so we expected the place to be green and in full bloom. But due to some previously cold days it snowed again and the beautiful Riffelsee was covered in snow. But we got lucky and the Matterhorn did show up through the clouds. And honestly: I don’t really mind foggy and moody weather at all! It’s still unique and beautiful. Lisi & Timon shared their Vows surrounded by soft instrumental music and the Matterhorn in the background showing off and covering again as the clouds changed every 5 minutes. Tears have been shed and me and Johanna had so much fun capturing them on photo and on Johanna’s Super 8. Afterwards we decided to take the Gornergratbahn back to Zermatt village and take some spring photos at a flower field. We did not get disappointed, it was just so carefree and intimate!

Elopement FAQ’s – Elope in Zermatt
What’s the difference between a traditional wedding and an elopement?
An elopement is an intimate celebration, often just the two of you or with a few close loved ones. It’s less about following tradition and more about your personal story. Unlike a big wedding, elopements focus on what truly matters: your connection, your vows, your adventure. In a place like Zermatt, this can mean exchanging vows with the iconic Matterhorn in the background.
How can we plan an elopement in Zermatt?
Planning an elopement in Zermatt is more relaxed than organizing a large wedding, but still requires a few important steps: choosing the right location, checking for any permits, and coordinating with local vendors. I’m happy to support you with my experience and local knowledge. Whether it’s a sunrise vow exchange above the village or an intimate moment on a hidden trail, Zermatt offers endless possibilities. I also created a full planning guide to help you plan your Zermatt elopement. I am based only an 2 hr train ride away from Zermatt.
Why elope in Zermatt from a photography perspective?
Zermatt offers some of the most spectacular mountain views in Switzerland. From the sharp silhouette of the Matterhorn to glacier lakes, alpine meadows and panoramic viewpoints – it’s a dream setting for emotional, cinematic elopement photos. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning natural light make Zermatt the perfect place for authentic, unforgettable images (and films, too, if you’d like to include video).
Is an elopement only for couples who are already married?
Not at all! Whether it’s your first “I do,” a vow renewal, or a way to celebrate your love quietly before or after a larger gathering—you can elope in Zermatt at any stage. For example, some of my couples have celebrated with family at home, then travelled to Zermatt just for the two of them. It’s a beautiful way to create space for intimacy and adventure alongside the traditional.
How do we choose the right elopement location in Zermatt?
The best location is one that reflects your personality and your connection as a couple. Zermatt offers a variety of magical spots: panoramic viewpoints reachable by gondola, peaceful forest paths, charming alpine chapels, and remote valleys. I help my couples choose the perfect spot based on what feels most meaningful to them.
Which season is best for an elopement in Zermatt?
Each season in Zermatt has its own unique charm. Winter brings snowy peaks and cosy mountain huts. Spring and summer offer wildflowers, green pastures and clear views of the Matterhorn. Autumn adds a touch of golden magic with colorful larch trees and dramatic skies. I’ll gladly help you choose the best timing based on your vision and priorities.
What if the weather in Zermatt is unpredictable?
That’s all part of the mountain experience! Zermatt’s weather can change quickly, so flexibility is key. With a solid Plan B and the right attitude, we can create beautiful moments in any conditions. I’ve photographed couples in sun, fog, snow and even rain—and each time, it added something special to their story. We plan ahead, stay flexible and always come prepared.
Can we include a symbolic or after-wedding ceremony in our Zermatt elopement?
Yes, absolutely. Many couples choose to include a second vow exchange, a private ritual or a meaningful moment they couldn’t include in their larger celebration. Whether it’s your first ceremony or a renewal, your elopement in Zermatt can be anything you want it to be.
Would you recommend eloping in Zermatt?
Yes, definitely. Zermatt is a breathtaking elopement destination—with its car-free village charm, incredible mountain scenery, and iconic Matterhorn views. That said, it’s also a popular tourist spot. If you’re willing to go a little off the beaten path—like hiking to a quieter location or planning your elopement at sunrise—you’ll find beautiful places away from the crowds. I’ll help you find those hidden gems to make your day truly yours.
