The wedding at Stolidi mou Treehouse, on the beautiful island of Crete in Greece, was simply WOW! The venue, was the ultimate dream wedding location for any couple. But let me start from the beginning, as it was pure coincidence that I got the chance to travel to Crete as a wedding photographer to capture Angie & Nicklas’ destination wedding. Sam, a good photographer friend of mine, originally had the honor of documenting the wedding with her husband, who is a videographer. However, their baby was due right around the wedding date, so traveling to Crete wasn’t an option for them. Sam recommended Sabrina and me instead, and we ended up traveling together. Here’s how it happened: My husband, Marc, is a musician, and so is Sabrina’s husband, Mattia, who also happens to be skilled with a video camera. Angie & Nicklas needed both musical accompaniment and a videographer, so it all worked out perfectly. The four of us flew to Crete on Friday morning, bursting with excitement. After picking up our rental car, we soaked in the stunning views as we drove to our accommodation. Crete is a breathtaking destination, with its beaches on one side and rocky hills on the other—a truly mesmerizing location for a wedding. Once we settled in, Sabrina, Mattia, and I got to work photographing and filming. Angie and Nicklas had requested their couple shoot to take place Friday evening so they could fully enjoy the wedding day without being away from their guests. We found a scenic spot with a sea view and a nearby beach for the shoot. It was the perfect setting to see each other in their wedding attire for the first time. With the sound of waves, a gentle breeze, and an almost empty location, the atmosphere was magical. After navigating some sharp rocks, we were rewarded with a stunning red sunset. A champagne toast and popcorn added a celebratory touch. Angie & Nicklas had planned every detail around their tastes, and I loved it! As darkness fell, we explored the charming old town of Rethymno for some unique street photos. A lively basketball court next to the parking lot offered an unexpected but perfect photo opportunity—ideal for the sporty couple. Later, Angie & Nicklas enjoyed a casual pizza date in a quaint alley while we captured every moment. Of course, dessert was a must, so gelato became the cherry on top of a fantastic evening.
Saturday: Relaxation and Welcome Aperitif
Saturday was a quieter day for Sabrina and me, while Marc and Mattia rehearsed songs for the wedding. In the late afternoon, Angie & Nicklas hosted a welcome aperitif at a garden restaurant in Rethymno. But they made a grand entrance by arriving on a quad bike—how cool is that? This pre-wedding gathering allowed them to spend quality time with their guests in a relaxed atmosphere, with delicious food, drinks, and plenty of laughter. Multi-day celebrations like these are such a great idea—they let you savor the moment and make lasting memories.
Sunday: The Big Day at Stolidi Mou Treehouse
The wedding day finally arrived, set against the backdrop of the stunning Stolidi Mou Treehouse venue. Located near the sea and close to Rethymno, this venue offers everything: a picturesque setting, a dreamy treehouse, and an intimate atmosphere. Angie started her day getting ready in the treehouse with her mom and friends, while Sabrina and I split tasks to also capture Nicklas’ preparation. The ceremony took place outdoors under a bright blue sky. It was heartfelt, emotional, and filled with music. During the lively aperitif, guests mingled, shared laughter, and enjoyed incredible food and drinks prepared by local vendors. As the sun turned a deep orange, everyone gathered at beautifully decorated round tables for dinner. Short speeches and toasts added to the warm atmosphere. Before the sun disappeared completely, we stole Angie & Nicklas away for five minutes to capture a few golden-hour shots. These quick, nearby sessions meant they didn’t miss out on any time with their guests. As darkness fell, twinkling string lights created a cozy ambiance. The evening was filled with heartfelt moments: slideshows, video messages (including one from Roger Federer!), and entertaining games. Dessert was, of course, gelato, staying true to the couple’s style. The highlight of the night? Angie & Nicklas walked through a sparkler tunnel to their first dance, accompanied by live music from Mattia and Marc. It was a goosebumps moment! The DJ then took over, and the dance floor came alive. I love these carefree moments when I can blend in with the dancing crowd and capture creative, candid shots.
