Switzerland Destination Wedding

This amazing destination wedding of Leyre and Juan in Switzerland was absolutely amazing. I don’t think it could have been more perfect. From the moment I received Leyre and Juan’s inquiry, I was over the moon with excitement. Leyre, a talented photographer herself who works in both Spain and New York (how cool is that?), reached out with their dream plan: an intimate wedding day in Switzerland, followed by a larger celebration with friends and family in Spain a few months later. After some research and brainstorming together, they decided on Lake Oeschinen as their wedding location. The allure of the Swiss mountains, combined with the lake’s mesmerizing turquoise waters, completely captivated them. To ensure we had the best conditions, we set aside three days to choose the one with the most favorable weather—an excellent precaution since the forecast that week was quite rainy. Luckily, the day we chose rewarded us with clear skies, warm sunshine, and a breathtaking sunset. The couple stayed at the charming Hotel Ermitage in Kandersteg, nestled in the mountains and conveniently close to the gondola station that would take us to the lake. Our adventure began in the afternoon with Leyre and Juan’s getting-ready moments. Every detail, from Leyre’s wedding dress to the heartfelt vows, the rings, and the flowers, was thoughtfully curated. They prepared separately, allowing us to plan a magical first look. On a sprawling meadow with majestic peaks in the background, Juan waited for Leyre. Capturing their emotions during that moment—the joy in Leyre’s eyes and Juan’s astonishment—was truly unforgettable. As the day progressed, we took the last gondola up to Lake Oeschinen, followed by a short 20-minute hike to the lake. Along the way, we stopped frequently for photos, as every corner seemed more beautiful than the last. Initially, a few people were making their way down to catch the final gondola, but soon we had the trail entirely to ourselves. The peace and serenity of the surroundings were incredible. Once we reached the lake, we faced the most challenging part of the day—a 40-minute hike to an incredible viewpoint. Determined to catch the golden hour light, we picked up the pace and climbed the hill. The effort was more than worth it. As the sun dipped lower, painting the mountains in hues of orange and gold, Leyre and Juan exchanged their vows in Spanish, creating a deeply emotional and intimate moment. I captured every second with bated breath, soaking in the magic of the setting. After their vows, they celebrated with champagne overlooking the lake. As night fell, I brought out the vintage lanterns I had packed, creating a romantic, moody atmosphere for the final photos of the day. (Let me know if you’d like these lanterns at your shoot—they always add a special touch!) Our adventure didn’t end there, though. We still had to make our way back down to Kandersteg, hiking under the stars. I loved chatting with them during the descent, even though I managed to awkwardly slip and fall once—classic me! Leyre and Juan, thank you for trusting me to capture such a special chapter of your story. Your wedding at Oeschinensee was a dream come true and a reminder of how magical a Switzerland destination wedding can be. If you’re planning your own intimate celebration in the Swiss Alps, I’d be thrilled to document your adventure! Let’s create unforgettable memories together.
